Are Handbags Vectors of Disease? Science Project (2010)
We wanted to see what type of bacteria grow on handbags, and to make people aware of not placing their handbags on surfaces that have a lot of bacteria e.g. floors in public toilets.

We borrowed handbags from the teachers to test. We got handbags made from cloth, leather and plastic, to see if the material made any difference to the bacteria count.

We took samples from the handbags - we could tell the type of bacteria by the colour of the test kit.

We carried out cell counts on the handbags - the colour of this test is black.

We also carried out a test for enterobacteria- this shows on the pink surface of the test.

Some of the test kits had to be placed in the incubator at a temperature of 37o C.

TY Visit to the Titanic  (2010)

On 2nd March, Tuesday we went on a trip to the Titanic exhibition in City west hotel. We travelled down by the Dublin bus - it was an hour and a half to get there. When we went to the entrance there were rules which said it was not allowed to use a camera, mobile phone, have food and lots more.

It was very interesting to read all the information about other people telling their story about Titanic. We were finding it very emotional as there were materials, forks and clothes which were found under the sea in it is 1st class. Lots of people died in 3rd class because there was the biggest number in 3rd class.

There were different stories to tell us why those people wanted to travel to New York for lots of different reasons. We realised that much of what happened in the past really affects us.

1C Essays - The Big Freeze (2010)
I was playing a game with my mam in the kitchen. Then I looked out the window I saw heavy snow every where. I played snowballs with my family. I like snow because I enjoy playing and throwing snowball it was fun. We didn't go driving in the car because it was dangerous on the road.

My family went walking then we played snowballs and I nearly fell on the ice. My brother's car got stuck in the snow and my dad dug out the car. I went ice skating with my sister. Last Monday it was freezing.

My Dogs love the snow because they love playing and fighting in the snow. The snow began to go and I was really sad. I want the snow to come back. The School was closed for one week.
Denise

My mum drove her car on the road but skidded on the ice it was a bad winter. I watched RTE news and found out the schools were closed because the roads were slippery. I felt happy because I had no school for one week.
