Miss. Higgins receives ASTI award for outstanding contributions. (2015)
Two second-level teachers each received a 2015 ASTI Achievement Award for their outstanding contributions to their schools, communities and society at a reception in Dublin on Friday, April 24th.

Shirley Higgins is a teacher at St Mary's School for Deaf Girls in Cabra, Dublin. Her work as founder and conductor of the school choir has brought artistic expression to a whole new level, while at the same time empowering a generation of young deaf women and promoting awareness of deaf culture and communication. St Mary's School for Deaf Girls has performed at national and international events including Feel the Music in Bonn and the 50th International Eurcharistic Congress. Shirley has also developed a Transition Year module in Irish Sign Language which her and her students teach to young people in mainstream second-level schools.

Hair & Beauty Day (2015)
LCA 1 & 2 and Fetac have organised a Hair & Beauty Day in aid of the Deaf Ethiopian Project.

The day was run like a professional salon with a reception area and two beauty treatment rooms. There were many treatments available such as manicures, facials and hand & arm massage. The clients had a pampering time in such a tranquil environment with relaxing music and calming aroma. We also had make up application and demonstration by a professional make up artist Noleen Cunningham (A past pupil of St.Mary's!) We are very proud to have her back her in St.Mary's for the day. Noleen is a fantastic role model for our students as she has a great career working as a free lance make up artist and for TV3 beauty department. Some of Noleen work have been featured on the front cover of prestigious magazines!

We are delighted to say that we have raised over €500 for the Deaf Ethiopian Project!

Fetac visit to Dublin Castle (2015)
The Fetac class along with some boys from St. Joseph's had a great day at Dublin Castle. They got a guided tour in ISL thanks to the OPW and the Centre for Deaf Studies.

It was really interesting and they learned lots about the history of Dublin.

4 Schools 1 Language 2014 (2014)
4 Schools 1 Language

This is our second joint project with St. Dominic's College, St. Declan's College, and St. Joseph's School for Deaf Boys and ourselves. Students learn the signs for the song in ISL class each week as part of their Transition Year. We bring over 90 students together (hearing and deaf) for one afternoon and film their performance. As you can see from the smiles on their faces they all love this project. See for yourself on Youtube "Fairytale of New York".
