Student of the Year 2012 (2012)

St. Mary's student of the year 2012 is Sarah Jacob.

Sarah is always smiling and she is very helpful all around the school. Mrs. O'Connell presented the award at the TY Graduation last week.

Well done to Sarah!

Green Flag! (2012)

We were presented with our Green Flag for Litter and Waste in Croke Park on Tuesday 22nd May.

Helen Ward and Aimée Ennis McLoughlin were the two students chosen to attend the award ceremony.

Ms Walshe (Green Schools co-ordinator) and Andy O'Hara also attended the award ceremony.

The girls had their photograph taken with the Sam Maguire cup.

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Joe Costello presented Helen and Aimée with the green flag.

70 other schools from the Dublin region also received their Green flag on that day.

After the ceremony the teachers and students were treated to a lunch in Croke Park. Congratulations to the Green Schools Commitee - Ciara Hamilton, Sarah Jacob, Helen Ward, Aimee Ennis McLoughlin and Abie Osa- who worked very hard all year to ensure that we got our green flag.

We have since sent lots more bags of unwanted clothes for recycling with Cash for Clobber. Now we are collecting old mobile phones to get an Apple Mac which will be used for Speech and Language.

LCA 2 Graduation (2012)
LCA 2 had their Graduation in the Playhall last week.

The girls start their exams next week, and we wish them all the best in both the exams and their future studies.

TY Water Safety Awards (2012)
Transition Years have completed their Water Safety Module and successfully passed their exam.

Congratulations girls, you did really well!

Visiting Eureka School Kells (2012)
We went on a visit to Eureka School in Kells last week. They came to visit us before Christmas, and invited us down to see their school for a day.

The school is much, much bigger than ours; they have 800 students!

We started the visit with tea and scones (freshly baked!), then did a tour of the school. Then we had some games of indoor hockey, football and basketball in their gym. Each game was a quick round until someone scored.Fun!

Then we had an Art Workshop where we each made a painted glass picture. After that, we had lunch, a delicious chicken curry. When we got back to the Art room, the teacher had framed our paintings!

Thanks a million to Eureka School for a great day! We look forward to you coming to visit us soon.

FAI Soccer Camp (2012)
Last week, we had our FAI Soccer Camp at the local park.

The coaches were great , a big thanks to all of them for all the new skills we learned!

Art Display Rosary School (2012)
We had our Annual Art Display in the Play Hall all last week.

This display is kindly sponsored by the Variety Club of Ireland, and we thank them for their ongoing interest in the school. It is lovely that they visit each year and take such an interest in our work.

All these pieces were produced by St. Mary's girls, from 1st to 6th Year.

Next week we will feature the work from Marian School, the Primary Section of St. Mary's.

Sound of Music Performances! (2012)

What a week!

We had 2 Matineés and 2 Evening performances of "The Sound of Music", with a full house for each performance!

Everybody enjoyed themselves, and we have had many appreciative messages. A huge amount of work went into making this show such a success, and we thank everyone involved.

Here are some pictures; more will be added as they become available, so check back when you can.

With thanks to Michael O'Brien and Robert Keogh for the photos, and Caroline Keogh for the video of the finale!

TY Mini-Company Success (2012)
TY Minicompany "Smiley Way" achieved 3rd Prize at the Regional Final in Kilkenny this week. The Prize was awarded for Accounts.

As well as running the school shop at break time each day, "Smiley Way" had regular "Seasonal Baking" sales. We sold cupcakes, chocolate fudge cake and cookies at Parent-teacher meetings. We also sold mince pies, Christmas Cup Cakes and chocolates for Christmas, and chocolate hearts, cakes and lollipops for Valentine's Day.

The 7 judges were very impressed with the products too, and many of them wanted to buy our products at the Trade Fair.

We worked hard to make our Company a success. We did lots of research, visiting the Toy Show at the RDS, talking to Sinead Winters Smith who has a Facebook cake business called Sinead's Delights, visiting a local shop, Treat, in Cabra, and surveying our customers to see what they liked.

It was worth it to get a prize at the Regional Final amid stiff competition.

Well done to the girls and their teachers!

Emmanuel at The Helix (2012)
The girls gave an outstanding performance on all three nights at the Helix.

We have received lots of positive feedback, and you represented St. Mary's very well.

We are very proud of you all!

With thanks to Diocesan photographer John Mc Elroy , and Shane Hamilton for the photos.
